Training and Running

Cheeky Rio was a very good girly this week at training. She’s getting a lot more comfortable with jumping at Small height, and we actually did some more complex sequencing this week. Complex at this stage meaning a couple of front crosses and a send. I’m also really happy with how her waits are holding up! I would really like to have a dog with a wait for once, considering Kim has no wait at all, and Dylan has about 10% of a wait. At this point I’ll even take 50% of a wait, but it’s sticking at 100% at the moment and I am so happy about that!

I don’t know what got into Dylan but he was Super Extending Dog this week, flying around like he had springs in his paws. He was bouncy and extending and no stuttering at all, and I even managed to do some actual handling as well to nailed some very difficult pull-thrus. And when I lost concentration, Dylan just pinged off and did whatever he fancied in the meantime.

Did mean to fit in a run today as well, but no such luck. Dylan hasn’t quite got the hang of canicross, he thinks it’s sort of rude to pull on the lead when I’m dying of exhaustion, but I’ll take it. It keeps him trotting for longer distances and that will be good for his fitness, I think. And yes, Dylan just has to do an extended trot to keep up with my running … I’m not sure if that says more about how fast I can run, or the length of Dylan’s stride in comparison to mine.
