Timing Notes

So I wasted an hour today doing this. It might be productive, who knows?!

My handy reference guide says as a rule, to be competitive at Grade 6/7 you need these kind of times for the obstacles:
Aframe: 1.3s
Dogwalk: 2.5
Seesaw: 1.2s
Weaves: 2.7s
Although I’m not entirely sure how that has been worked out, or where I got this reference guide from. Sounds about right anyway, dogwalk is probably a bit faster than that. Obviously my guys won’t be doing those kind of times but it’s interesting for comparison!

Dylan

Brutally honest times taken from the moment of first contact with the obstacle to the moment the front paw(s) hit the ground. Don’t have enough 12 weave footage for reasonable average, but for the others the average is …

Aframe: 2.36 (2.53 1.53 2.13 2.20 3.40)
Dogwalk: 5.15 (4.34 5.13 4.26 6.87)
Seesaw: 3.52 (2.62 1.26 3.67 6.53)

Um … yeah, we have some serious work to do! In my defence, most of these times are taken from earlier in the summer when Dylan was still having seesaw and dogwalk issues, and of course we’re still working through the creepy Aframe thing. I’d have really liked to have got his dogwalk in the TFO at Yorkshire Bouncers because that felt fast and without issue.

Kim

Times taken from the moment of first contact with the obstacle to the last moment of contact, and in the weaves from the moment of turning into the first pole to the kick out of the last. Average is …

Aframe: 1.38 (1.10 1.19 1.43 1.69 1.40 1.47)
Dogwalk: 3.09 (3.20mc 2.71 4.19 2.76 2.62)
Seesaw: 2.73 (4.21 1.93 2.07mc)
12 Weaves: 4.05 (3.46 3.74 5.07 3.93 4.06 4.20 3.93)

MC = Missed Contact. Kim’s Aframe has really slowed down, last year it was averaging 0.9s, so that’s something to work on! Pretty happy with her dogwalk though, and her seesaw always needs work but it has always depended on what mood she is in. Nice surprise is the weave times, I’ve always thought Kim has pretty slow weaves but those times are not too shabby.

It’s interesting watching her contact performance this season compared to last. She’s not attacking it quite as much as she used to, and she’s hitting everything a lot lower than she used to. Kim only just used to get the up contact but now she’s hitting it on the second slat easily every time, which is … different?! Not sure why that is but then again she has only trained on contact equipment 10-15 times this year, so it’s reasonable to assume that’s had an effect on her performance.
