Dylan,  Kim,  Mollie

Kennel Cough – Day 9,012

Hope is slipping away for the British Flyball Championships. We have to decide by this evening, and of course let our other team members decide as well.

Dylan has stopped coughing entirely now. He coughed twice yesterday whilst he was on the lead but he was pulling and I think his throat is still a bit sore, it wasn’t a hacking cough but the kind you make (strangely enough!) if you’re breathing is momentarily restricted. Wonder what caused that?! Surprisingly Kim is the same, no hacking coughs just occasional “peffs” when something irritates her throat. Mollie seemed to be the worst last night although her coughing is quieter as well now, not the violent hacking but just like a normal cough.

Took them out at 10pm last night and had the golf course to ourselves, so they got to burn off some energy and really stretch their legs and open their lungs up. I played racing games with all of them for a while, and I was expecting Kim and maybe Mollie to cough a little after. Kim, as usual, decided to be contrary and not cough at all, whilst Mollie had a short cough and then found a golf ball, and coughing and carrying a golf ball at the same time is a bit tough for the Mol so she stopped coughing.

It was interesting to see how much conditioning they’ve all lost. Dylan has barely dropped at all, he’s perfect weight, kept all his muscle tone and has the stamina and speed he did 3 weeks ago. Kim has dropped a little on the stamina front but generally she’s still in good shape, she kept up for the whole walk, chasing and no lagging about. But poor Molby, her age is showing a bit! Her weight is still good and her muscle tone, but she’s slower and got tired way before the end of their normal walk last night. We really need to start getting her back into condition! Kim needs a “top-up” but she wanted to play after getting home, and Dylan hasn’t lost anything at all.

Is it possible for you to pop into the vets at some point today just to see if they think they’re still contagious? The vet told us Marley had stopped being contagious perhaps a day after his actual coughing stopped, but he, like yours had a few peffs now and again. But we took him to Selby (very nervous) that weekend and he was absolutely fine, there was no problem at all.

Then again the KC that had been spreading round for him hadn’t lasted more than a week on most dogs, so it depends how strong or whatever the KC they recieved was.

    Fingers crossed you can go!

🙁 Awh poor dogs! Doesn’t look too promising does it? I’ve been looking up and it says “any coughing”, even that which isn’t typical hacking. It’s a tough decision though, as they could potentially still pass it on to any of the team if they still even have a touch of it. Such a shame, and poor Mollie dog.

I’d maybe not take them into the vets in case they are contagious?? Might be better ringing up again?

Hope they get better soon 🙁 (like by tomorrow – eeep!)
